Introducing ECE
Founded in 2004, ECE began as an Energy Consulting and Engineering firm and has evolved into a trusted provider of commercial property inspections, home inspections, and energy audits in Washington and, upon request, other states.
While our roots are grounded in building science and engineering, our mission today is helping property owners, investors, and prospective buyers navigate the complexities of property ownership through detailed, high-level inspections.
We specialize in both commercial and residential property assessments, applying deep technical expertise to identify structural, mechanical, electrical, and system-related issues that may go unnoticed by others. Our engineering background enables us to evaluate each building as a complete system rather than simply a checklist of components.
By combining established inspection standards with an advanced understanding of how buildings actually perform, we provide the clarity, confidence, and technical insight needed to support informed, high-stakes property decisions.

Whether evaluating cost-saving opportunities or planning sustainable upgrades, we help clients make confident, future-ready choices, always with their goals, values, and best interests at the forefront.
The Founder
Elmar Niewerth holds a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Applied Sciences Aachen, Germany, and brings more than 20 years of experience in building systems, energy consulting, and property evaluation.
Before founding ECE in 2004, Elmar was a licensed German contractor specializing in plumbing, natural gas systems, HVAC, and solar electric (PV) installations. His technical background and engineering expertise provide a deeper understanding of how buildings function as complete systems.
Today, Elmar serves clients throughout Washington and beyond, providing thorough residential and commercial property inspections backed by advanced building science knowledge. As a Washington State Licensed Home Inspector and Certified Commercial Property Inspector, he helps clients make informed decisions with confidence.
When he’s not inspecting properties, Elmar enjoys exploring the Pacific Northwest and spending time outdoors with his family.
